South Los Angeles Youth Activity League
“The South Los Angeles Youth Academy is one of the greatest After-School Programs in the community,” says Academy Coordinator Jennifer Echeverria.
“Our after-school program focuses on keeping youth out of the streets and in a safe environment.”
The Irmas Youth Center includes the following activities; Karate, Boxing, Tutoring, Computers, and so much more.
What makes this program special is that the youth get to socialize with their peers and law enforcement officers.
The youth and parents get to know the staff members and Sheriff’s Deputies on a personally level and have the opportunity to bond on a daily basis.
Most of the youth come from the most underserved parts of Los Angeles, where we try to engage the youth by taking them to field trips throughout the year, such as Knott’s Berry Farm and Soak City.
The Foundation also offers youth events such as Leadership Academy, Life After High School, Camp Courage and the Explorer Program.
These programs help our kids be great leaders and keep them motivated.
